Minibeasts

Welcome back to a busy half term in which we will be saying goodbye to our older children. Miss Maher will be visiting the Nursery in June and we will also be taking the older children to see their new classroom and meet their teacher.

We are looking forward to our Sports Day and Teddy Bears Picnic and will be busy preparing for both of these events. We will also be making our regular visits to our Forest School. Preparations for the carnival are also well under way.

Our theme for this half term is Mini-beasts and here are a few ideas for you to try at home: -

  • Explore your garden or the park to find out where centipedes, snails and beetles hide.

  • Cut out pictures of mini-beasts from magazines and make a collage.

  • Look out for spider’s webs and their different shapes.

  • Look for spiders and try counting their legs. Explore the number eight with your children and try sorting objects into groups of 8. For younger children repeat this activity with number 4

  • Try turning over a rock in the garden and see how many mini-beasts are under it.

  • Ask your children to become ‘insect inspectors’ at home. Can they find different bugs from the ones at Nursery?

If your child makes anything at home we would love to see it at Nursery and he/she will have the opportunity to ‘show’ it at circle time.

Please encourage your child to bring something in connected with our topic.
